Summary

The Interior Design Manager will be responsible primarily for establishing design direction and overseeing Interior Design phases and related projects of company’s urban multifamily development investments. The IDM will be responsible for managing various design teams and coordinating with the construction teams for Parkmerced, and future projects to execute project goals. The IDM will also be responsible for interfacing with Property Operations team, Sales Team, Marketing Team, and Construction Team as the main liaison on understanding the project requirements, set the interior scope and executing plans to completion.

Responsibilites & Essential Job Duties

  • Strategize and put forth best design direction and briefs to present innovative, high design, luxurious, cost effective and operationally efficient designs that meet company’s financial goals.
  • Assemble the best interior design team that can execute to the project design intent, schedule and budget. Negotiate contracts with different design teams as needed.
  • Interface internally with variously departments to obtain input on major decisions regarding development projects and design.
  • Set design direction and manage the work of designers, consultants and contractors.
  • Lead the effort in setting finish standards that provides high design and cost effective results.
  • Drive bulk purchasing efforts for interior finishes, appliances and fixtures.
  • Participate in and lead meetings with design teams and contractors as needed.
  • Prepare presentations and present to internal and external audiences as necessary.
  • Participate in community review of development projects as needed.
  • Be a contributing member of the development/construction team to achieve established project long term and intermediate goals while help creating a culturally thriving and financially successful company. Participate in consultant meetings through pre-construction and construction stages.
  • Coordinate day—to—day execution throughout project lifecycle, which may include:
    • Project design schedule 
    • project budgeting and forecasting

       

    • ensuring projects meet highest quality control and schedules
    • project turnover to homeowner’s association or operations
  • Collect a variety of statistical data and prepare reports and maps on topics as census information, and occupancy rates.
  • Serve as a resource for others in the department at times to fulfill their assignments.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • In depth knowledge of multifamily construction, design trends and relevant costs.
  • Understand construction methods and be able to streamline construction details to reduce total cost while achieving design intent when possible.
  • Drive value-engineering process without sacrificing the sense of luxury or design intent.
  • Extensive experience sourcing different materials and products to meet budget. Existing relationships with major appliances and plumbing fixtures preferred.
  • Excellent financial analysis and cash flow management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects.
  • Proven track record of completed multifamily projects in similar size and scope.
  • Highly intelligent; analytical thinker.
  • Solid written and oral communication skills; articulate.
  • Highly organized with a keen attention to detail.
  • Self-starting personality that can work well with limited direction.
  • Suitability to an entrepreneurial culture that places a premium on performance.

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Design or similar required; Graduate degree in relevant field preferred.
  • 10+ years of directly relevant work experience in architecture, design, construction, real estate and development in the Bay Area (preferred) or other major metropolitan areas.
  • Background in design, architecture, construction oversight and delivery and overall project management of residential and commercial developments through completion.
  • Proven leadership skills that cultivate collaboration among the internal and external team members.
  • Demonstrated record of successful project management in complex situations.
